at this moment. world leaders expressing their condolences. president obama addressed us earlier this evening. >> he achieved more than could be expected of any man. and today he's gone home. and we've lost one of the most influential, courageous, and profoundly good human beings that any of us will share time with on this earth. i am one of the countless millions who drew inspiration from nelson mandela's life. my very first political action, the first thing i ever did that involved an issue or a policy or politics was a protest against aparthe apartheid. i would study his words and his writings. the day he was released from prison gave me a sense of what human beings can do when they're guided by their hopes and not by their fears. >> mandela was born in 1918 in eastern cape province, south africa, one of 13 children in the family of a fairly high status clan. he would go on to be a lawyer after an incredibly rare education in a white supremacist nation that was explicitly ordered in every single particularity around the oppression, alienuation and d degradation of the black majority of its

the case, that obama care just capriciously denied a toddler health care, and there is that old adage, winston churchhill, about a lie getting spread all over the world. >> and the story was already debunked before it appeared on "hannity." and fox pushed this other story within the last few days about a cancer survivor who was going to not have insurance, and just basically die if he -- you know, the cancer came back. and they had him on, and an insurance broker got in touch with him off the air and said wow, you still have insurance. you didn't get cancelled. again, that story did not hold up. fox has not addressed that issue. >> there is something kind of sick about it. these are actual people lying. people are defending these stories, i don't begrudge them anything. but to sort of manipulate people this way, scaring people as we are trying to just clear away the confusion. again, i say this to conservatives and said it about the website and will say it to them again, if you think it is so bad, it is going to play out in your favor. and that was true about the website, don't shut d

. we have seen the sharpest slow down in health care costs in post world war ii history. the difference between the projections in 2008 and what we think we're going to pay this year, it is $550 per person. $2200 for a family of four. is obama care responsible for all of that? no, and i don't work for the obama administration, but if it had gone the other way, imagine what we're looking at for costs that were $2400 more than projected. what do you think they would be saying? >> would they be on the hook for it, absolutely. no one would say we don't know if this is obama care or not. >> clearly i think obama care is part of the story, the downturn is part of the story. the downturn can't be all. i heard people saying people are out of work. that's true but they have been out of work, the downturn was 2009. let's imagine ten million people lose their jobs, we expect to fall off in spending. but the economy is certainly better today than it was in 2009, so -- >> i want to put dollars and cents to this. this is the difference in the cbo projected savings. they're projects $222 billion in a

college more affordable, competing in the world economy, dealing with questions of war and peace, those are not things that chris matthews or barack obama can solve by ourselves. by necessity, we're going to have to do those together and if we can at least agree on that and agree that our system of self-government allows us to come together to take on those big problems then, you know, we can figure out the specific policies and that's where we are compromise and negotiate. but what i will not compromise on is the idea, for example, we shouldn't have 41 million people in this country without health insurance. that i won't compromise on. that's where it gets to who are we as a country and my own sense of what my responsibilities are as president of the united states. >>> well, we're almost done. i have to ask you a little question you may not like to answer. this could be tough. >> all right. >> it's an essay question. the qualities required of a president. vice president joe biden, former secretary hillary clinton, compare and contrast. >> not a chance am i going there. here's what i'll
